Connect your website to the knowledge base

Point your assistants at your website or sitemap so they answer from your own pages, kept up to date every night.

Your assistants can answer from your own website. Add your website or sitemap address once on the Knowledge base page, and every assistant uses those pages on calls and on WhatsApp. The pages are re-checked every night, and only the ones that changed are updated.

Set it up

  1. In the sidebar, under Settings, open Knowledge base.
  2. In the Website knowledge base panel, type the address in Website or sitemap URL. It must start with https://.
  3. Click Save. You'll see "Website saved. The knowledge base will be updated shortly."
  4. Wait a few minutes. When the status shows Synced, your assistants are answering from your site.

Sitemap or home page?

A sitemap (a .xml file, often at https://www.yoursite.com/sitemap.xml) is best: it lists exactly the pages you want read. If you don't have one, enter your home page. The dashboard then follows the links on your site from that address, up to 200 pages.

Read the status

The panel shows the address in use, Last synced and the number of Pages read, plus one of these statuses:

Status What it means
Not set up No website has been added yet.
Not synced yet The address is saved and the first sync hasn't run yet.
Syncing… Pages are being read right now.
Synced Every page was read. The knowledge base is up to date.
Partly synced The knowledge base was updated, but some pages could not be read. The warning shows the first page that failed.
Failed The last sync failed. Your assistants keep using what was synced before.

The same status appears on the Home page under Needs attention, so you'll notice if a sync fails.

Update it now

Changed a price or a policy on your site and don't want to wait for the nightly check? Click Sync now. You'll see "Sync started. This can take a few minutes." If a sync is already waiting to run, the dashboard tells you "A sync is already queued."

To use a different website or sitemap, replace the address and click Save again.

What the nightly check does

  • Pages that changed are read again.
  • Pages that didn't change are left alone.
  • Pages that are no longer on your site (or no longer in your sitemap) are removed, so the assistant stops quoting them.

Website first, notes for the rest

The website is the assistant's main source for facts such as plans, prices, hours and policies. Each assistant also has its own notes for what the website doesn't say, and an Overrides section for the few cases where it must say something different from the site. See Assistant notes and overrides.

Good to know

  • One website serves all your assistants. Each assistant's notes are separate.
  • If the field and buttons are greyed out, none of your assistants is active yet. Contact Edenia to turn one on.
  • Partly synced often means a page was removed, moved or blocked. Check the page in the warning, fix it or take it out of your sitemap, then click Sync now.
  • Keep important facts as text on the page. The assistant learns from what's written on your pages.
